Why Mentorship

When The Resilient Mind training started we experimented with therapy, counselling, and mentorship, and found mentoring increased the effectiveness of clients’ outcomes. The fact that it generated trust, transparency, and a willingness to accept one’s vulnerabilities in both parties made it the ideal vehicle for attaining self-awareness and turning one’s weaknesses into strengths.

Mentoring has had a fascinating history. Before formal education came into its own, the preferred method of education in most of society was mentoring. The second half of the 20th century saw the emergence of modern forms of mentorship aimed at achieving career success. This was particularly so in the United States, where it gradually grew in popularity. Today, thanks to the deep levels of engagement that mentorship succeeds in fostering between mentor and client, it is gaining increasing acceptance as an effective way of imparting skills and knowledge.

OUR MENTORS

Our mentors are people who have developed awareness and skills toward managing their own psychological functions and are adept at transmitting the same to others. Endowed with rich experience, they seamlessly slip into an empathetic relationship with their clients. They know where the pain is, where the struggles are, and how, by degrees, we can overcome these to reach a state of fulfilment. By virtue of establishing a high Trust Quotient (TQ) with their clients, they develop a strong sense of security, understanding, and connectedness that makes the attainment of mental and relationship health goals that much easier.

HOW IT WORKS

During the 10-week training program, clients choose how they wish to communicate with their group mentor – whether by cell phone, Skype, or text. The mentoring focuses primarily on the following:

  • identifying clients’ two top stressors, setting goals to reduce their ill effects, and working toward this end by applying the 7 traits of resilience
  • Motivating the client and imparting self-confidence by providing encouragement, empathy, and compassion
  • Instilling in the client, on the basis of the trust established, a gentle sense of accountability toward the attainment of his/her goals

DURATION: It occurs over a 10-week period

READINESS: Participants must first complete the Readiness To Change assessment before registering. The resilience training is not for everyone, but is designed for individuals who are at a place in their life where they are ready to come into awareness of their stressors and fully commit to developing their resilience skills. The program consists of:

-Attending 7, 1.5 hour in-person group sessions where they play the resilience game

-Receiving 2, 15-20 minute eLearning assignments on their smart phones for over 10 weeks

-Having access to tele/text/video conferencing mentoring

Think of what occurs during a game: guidelines exist which keep the group on-track which create safety and structure. Playfulness and laughter build engagement. In addition, healthy levels of rivalry challenge participants to play hard. All these game dynamics evoke the 5 traits to what we call playing hard:

– Honesty and Vulnerability

– Humility

– Courage

– Self-Awareness

– A Desire To Be Your Best Self

The Resilient Mind team conducts secondary research in advanced behavioral, neural, and social sciences and have incorporated these sciences into the game content which includes:

-Resilience Skills

-Relationship Skills

-Emotional Intelligence

-Social Health and Community Skills

-Managing Your Psychological Functions

-Play and Laughter

Note: All of The Resilient Mind project are led by a certified facilitator. Any organization can host The Resilient Mind Project as long as they have an individual who meets the qualification for becoming a certified facilitator and commits to the certification training. Upon certification, The Resilient Mind Game and Props are shipped to the facilitator.

Applicants:

-Complete the application

-Must be willing to go through a 30-minute interview

-Commit to a 10-week training program for 2-4 hours per week

– Carry out your first resilience training through a supervisor

Anyone who has completed the registration and Readiness To Change assessment.

What is involved in the 2 eLearning weekly assignments?2020-08-13T15:52:40+00:00

eLearning assignments take approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and for others, it may take up to 30 minutes. The objective of each assignment is to reinforce the training in- person weekly group session and to measure stress levels each week.

What results can participants expect after completing the program?2019-09-06T17:21:48+00:00

Our data to date indicates that people who have completed The Resilient Mind project on average achieve a 20% increase in resilience. As the program evolves, we are targeting a 25% increase.

What if I want to participate in The Resilient Mind project but I don’t want to expose my identity?2019-09-06T07:44:35+00:00

You can play the game online wherein you will be able to play with people you do not know. There is also an option to use an alias.

Note: Outcomes are not as high in the online version.

How is the online game played?2020-08-13T15:52:40+00:00

A group of 10 people meet online using a screen sharing technology where participants play the game on their computer and communicate using a teleconference line. All the same game activities in the in-person game are used and approximately 70% of group dynamics are maintained. The online version was developed due to the fact that some people are not comfortable of practicing the 5 following traits that define playing hard:

– Honesty and Vulnerability

– Humility

– Courage

– Self-Awareness

– A Desire To Be Your Best Self

How much does The Resilient Mind project cost to participate?2019-09-06T07:44:52+00:00

The cost is $399 for the 10-week program which includes:

– Pre-Registration Assessments

– The 7, 1.5 Group Sessions

– The Dashboard icon on your smartphone which provides several resources to draw from weekly

– 2, 15 minute eLearning sessions pushed out to your smart phone

– Access to The Resilient Mind mentors via text, email, and video conference call

How does payment work for participants?2020-08-13T15:52:40+00:00

Participants must pay 50% of the cost. On completion of the 10-week program if the participants receive the certificate of completion, the organization has the option to reimburse the 50% paid. It is not possible for participants to have 100% of cost paid- without a personal investment in the program, participants will not be invested in this development process.

Who leads The Resilient Mind game?2019-09-06T07:47:53+00:00

A licensed facilitator, and a leader from the organization. The role of these two people is to model playing hard within the game activities.

How does our organization implement The Resilient Mind project?2020-08-13T15:52:40+00:00
  1. Arrange your in-house facilitator or use a Resilient Mind facilitator.
  2. The first 1.5 hour group session to be carried out, is led by the facilitator in a meeting room you arrange.
  3. Participants complete 2 weekly 15-20 minute eLearning lessons each week.
  4. Psychometric Measures are carried out on participant dashboard to measure progress.
  5. Participants have access to The Resilient Mind project mentors via phone/text.

Note: No administration work is required by the organization hosting The Resilient Mind Program.

How soon can we begin hosting The Resilient Mind in our organization2019-09-06T07:48:12+00:00

This depends. It requires 3 weeks to complete the first module of facilitator training. So, as little as 4 weeks from sign up.
