Your Mindset Matters

…How psychological fitness influences physiological health

Science has long-since recognised the connection between mind and body, but what does that mean in practical terms?

  • Is it mind over matter?
It would be nice to simply wish for health and well-being with the magic wand of the mind, but we know that willpower alone can’t overcome physical problems.
  • So is it mind before matter?
While making healthy lifestyle choices can help prevent certain degenerative diseases, many people lack the motivation, the grounding or even the information to start and sustain this.
  • Or what about:if you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter”?
Ignoring the effects of a fast-paced, modern lifestyle is tempting, but the resulting stress and mental health struggles makes self-care even more difficult to achieve.

It’s all about resilience.

The good news is that mindset does matter.

Feeling validated and having the hope and confidence to thrive is the motivating spark. Building individual resilience is the bedrock of mental well-being. It is never too late to learn or build on the core skills that support this.

Canadian health clinics are set to recognise mental fitness

With health science advancing at an exponential rate, particularly in the field of neuroscience, it is evident that psychological health training is an important tool in the kit of Canadian health clinics.

The Resilience Mind project was founded by a group of thought leading academics, clinical professionals and former ministers of health with a vision to spark a resilience revolution across Canada.

Since 2015 they have been developing and testing a resilience training program that occurs over 10 weeks through online or in person small groups that helps people increase their resilience.

Vic LeBouthillier, one of the co-founders of this project states: “We are calling on alternative health care clinics to step up to the plate and become the training venues, through a train the trainer model that can provide resilience training to Canadians who desire to live with less stress.”
